It's the valve where the mains water pipe first enters your home. It's often a brass tap, but it can also be a lever or a plastic valve. Most are in one of a handful of spots.
A stopcock is the valve that turns the water off for the whole house. It sits on the mains pipe just after it comes up through the floor or in through the wall. They come in a few styles:
The classic style: a brass valve on copper pipe, turned with a T-shaped or crutch handle.
A flat lever (often red or blue) that turns a quarter turn. Common in newer installs.
Blue or black plastic with a round handle, usually where blue plastic mains pipe comes in.
Can't find it? Check the meter box outside. The internal stopcock is usually on the same wall. Still stuck? Message us.
Three angles tell us everything we need. Good light, landscape if you can, and clear the cupboard first. Bottles and bags hide the pipework.
Stand back a metre so we can see the stopcock and the space around it.

Where the unit would sit. A tape measure or your hand in shot helps.
